For how refreshing it is to slurp down a glass of ice-cold water, remembering to *actually* drink it is hard. And that’s just for one glass—getting the recommended six to eight servings a day can often feel close to impossible! Which is why I’m a big fan of anything that helps me to drink more water, be it an alarm on my iPhone, flavoring it with lemon, or my new favorite reminder: carrying it around in a reusable water bottle with a built-in straw. The built-in straw makes for a more comfortable, seamless drinking experience and minimizes messes almost completely, especially when your hands are busy doing something else, like typing or driving. bottle cake design Flip Flops
Cleaning
Not all water bottles with straws are dishwasher safe, so make sure to check before you buy. That said, washing your water bottle by hand—although a time-suck—will make it last longer.
If you do plan to do a lot of hand-washing, make sure to get a cleaning tool that can successfully scrub the inside of the straw and cap. Some of the best water bottles with straws come with their own cleaning tool for an extra fee.
Extra features
Depending on your needs, spending the extra coin on fancy features may be worth it. For instance, there are some water bottles that come with caps that, when not in use, conceal the straw completely. This is an excellent feature because it protects your straw from picking up any particles that are floating around in the air, or rubbing up against the likely dirty material that lines your purse or backpack.
If comfortable transport is important to you, consider buying a straw water bottle with a carrier pouch, or get one that has a wide handle that allows for an easier grip. And again—if you plan to, or have to, wash your water bottle by hand—make sure to get something that comes with its own cleaning tool that can scrub inside the straw (some do include these with your purchase).

In my testing, I also found this water bottle to be leakproof (not a single drop was found at the bottom of my backpack after a hike), well-insulated (my ice water successfully stayed cool after eight hours), and comfortable, with a consistent flow from the straw. What’s more, this Stanley water bottle is dishwasher safe.

Hydro Flask, Water Bottle With Straw Wide Mouth — $40.00
If you are someone who is nit-picky about your water staying cool, you’ve got to get this Hydro Flask water bottle. Out of all the water bottles I tested, this Amazon best-seller kept my ice water cold the longest. After about two hours, my ice water ran a temperature (via a meat thermometer) at a very low 39 degrees, compared to other insulated water bottles, which hovered between a temperature of 44 and 52 degrees. After a few more hours, the temperature only rose 2.3 degrees. The next day, I was shocked to discover the water was still cool, reading a temperature of 47 degrees. Compared to your average water bottle with a straw, this Hydro Flask is pricey, but for its insulating properties alone, it’s more than worth the investment.
Other standout features include that it’s very light in weight (less than a pound), dishwasher safe, and leakproof. It also comes in 32- and 40-ounce options, and unlike other water bottles with straws, there’s a wide range of color options to choose from.

Camelbak, Eddy 32 oz. Water Bottle — $35.00
The Camelbak Eddy has proven itself to be a solid option for people who prefer metal water bottles. The material is strong enough to sustain impact on multiple surfaces and has proven to be well-insulated. While testing, I found that my ice water dropped in temperature the least over time out of the water bottles I tested; After just two hours, the temperature only increased by 0.4 degrees, which is a lot less than others that changed between 1.7 and 2.3 degrees. The next day, the temperature only rose 2 degrees, while others rose between 2.8 and 5.3 degrees.
The Camelbak also lived up to its leak-proof claim, which was refreshing considering it holds a lot of water (32 ounces), and has a more flexible straw than others of its kind. The plastic top is BPA-free (the brand runs its own tests to ensure no BPA is detected in its plastic products) and can be put in the dishwasher.
